What's On At Birdfair 2018

I really don’t need to go to the gym to keep weight off, I only need to organize the Birdfair once a year! The stress levels shoot through the roof as we approach the ‘birdwatchers Glastonbury’. In previous years we have worried as to whether it might be cancelled due to the rain, this year, quite the opposite. The ground must be so hard down there in Rutland that they will struggle to get the marquee pegs in! I’m now on the scrounge for a large fan….just in case we end up all melting!

This year we have a whole collection of new products to tempt you. First up on the red carpet is our brand spanking new RSPB Avocet Jacket. This has been in development for the past couple of years, but the wait has been all the worthwhile as the RSPB are as delighted as we are with the finished product. It’s made from a really good waterproof/breathable fabric and has all the essential features required in an outdoor jacket and retails from £195. It comes with Country Innovation’s usual very high standard of finish and attention to detail, and for every jacket sold, we will donate £10 to the RSPB.

We will also have our new Woodlark range that you will be able to pre-order (stock arriving this Autumn). It consists of the Woodlark Jacket, Lady Woodlark Jacket and Woodlark Smock, all made from our very own Braxton Aqua fabric (a tough, cotton fabric) with a waterproof/breathable lining. They are loaded with features and will retail from £295. I know you will love this range (says she very confidently!).

Due to the success that we’ve had in the photography world with our Traveller Jacket and Raptor Waistcoat (both won awards in the photography magazines), I have now developed a brand new Aperture Jacket. Whether you are a birdwatcher, photographer or anyone who needs to carry around a lot of gear, this jacket will really suit you as it has a total of 13 pockets, and is made from the same tough Braxton Aqua fabric as the Woodlark range. I will have the finished prototype to show you, and again this can be pre-ordered so that you are the first to get one of these when they arrive later in the year.

I had loads of requests last year from our petite ladies for a specific Lady Venture Waistcoat, so your wish is my command. It is available from XS (8-10) to XL (16-18) and is made from the same very high quality fabric as our proven Venture Waistcoat, with a total of 11 pockets (we’ve just taken off the 2 top bellows pockets so as to not accentuate the female shape!).

We teamed up earlier in the year with Somerset Birdwatching Holidays (run by Graeme and Kay Mitchell, and expert birder Stephen Moss), as we are both based down here in the South West, and there is a competition on the stand to win a prize worth a staggering £995! It’s an Avocet Jacket and a ‘Starling Spectacular’ 2 night break for 2 people. All you have to do is ‘Guess the Beak’ and the clue is in the word ‘Somerset’. It’s in pole position on the stand so even if you don’t want to buy anything from us (more’s the pity!), make sure you swing by and enter.

The winners of the Bird Photographer of the Year competition will be announced by Chris Packham in the Events Marquee on Saturday at 4pm. This is always a very popular event with many people standing at the back, so make sure you get there early to get a seat. We sponsor the competition, so we will be there to present prizes looking suitably dishevelled from a day on the stand (well that’s our excuse!). You will be able to buy the latest book, which is truly fabulous with some breathtaking bird images, and might even get is signed by Chris Packham. Treat yourself of think ahead for Christmas pressies!

As always, there will be plenty of show offers, which will be announced very soon. Most are also available online until 20th August, but there will also be some fantastic exclusive show offers that you really won't want to miss, so visit the stand early so as to not be disappointed!

We will have a great range of Tilley hats in the whole size spectrum, and we’ve even got experts from Tilley to help us on the stand. We will also have some mouth-watering offers from Craghoppers, and our most popular lines of Grisport walking boots and shoes, all at great prices.

We’re moving back to our old home in Marquee 6, stands 5-9 as the spirit of Marquee 6 is calling us (that really I my simple reasoning!), so please do come and visit us. You’ll find the usual friendly faces amongst the CI team: Carol ‘Jack’ Frost on footwear, Helen ‘Bonham’ Carter and ’Luscious’ Linda on cashdesk, ‘Matron’ Matthews and ’RC’ Ryan on front of house……and then me, running around like the proverbial blue bottomed fly!

Visit www.birdfair.org.uk for more information about the show, and should you wish to put anything to one side, please do not hesitate to contact us on: 01934 877333 or sales@countryinnovation.co.uk
